The performers were a loosely-organised group that was 'formalised' in 1986, when Ripon celebrated 1,100 years of its Royal Charter as a City and so a specially-written play was performed during St Wilfrid's Week (1st week of August) on the market square, chronicling the granting of Ripon's Charter.
