6.No location is given for this play, but Hughes (1856) is known to be autobiographical in part, and the author was bom at Uffington. He states that Tom Brown did not leave his native village 'near the foot of the White Horse range' until nearly eight years of age. Uffington is the nearest village to the White Horse.
