Reginald Tiddy: 'No Vain Sacrifice'
T.J.E.Tiddy was a key figure in the Oxford folk movement before the Great War, and was a close associate of Cecil Sharp. As an academic, he had a particular interest in folk drama, but sadly, his life was cut short in the trenches of northern France in 1916. However, his posthumous book The Mummers' Play became a seminal work for folk play research.
At this time of remembrance, we visit Tiddy's grave, review the legacy that he left us, and wonder if things might have been different had he lived to continute his research. More >>

Obituary: Bernard Fishlock
Mike Pearson write about Bernard Fishlock, a leading member of the famous Marshfield Mummers. Bernard had been seriously ill for some time, but he remained positive, and he performed with gusto last Boxing Day (see photo). The idea of King William taking on all comers was his! |
