Description:
The performers were a loosely-organised group that was 'formalised' in 1986, when Ripon celebrated 1,100 years of its Royal Charter as a City and so a specially-written play was performed during St Wilfrid's Week (1st week of August) on the market square, chronicling the granting of Ripon's Charter. This play has been performed in that week ever since.

As well as the Skelton-on-Ure play (revived and performed since 1980), we also perform the Topcliffe Play, which Jim Coulson collected in 1989; this is now performed between Xmas and New Year in the village of that name, 5 miles from Ripon.
