        <l xml:id="3080">I was born in a rocky country,</l>
        <l xml:id="3090">where there was no wood to make me a cradle;</l>
        <l xml:id="3100">I was rocked in a stouring bowl,</l>
        <l xml:id="3110">which made me round shouldered then,</l>
        <l xml:id="3120">and I am round shouldered still.</l>
      </sp>
      <stage type="unknown">He then frisks about the room, until he thinks he has sufficiently amused
      the spectators, when he makes his exit with this speech.</stage>

        <l xml:id="3140">to steal apples to make gooseberry pies against Christmas?</l>

        <l xml:id="3160">Come from the Turkish land to fight,</l>
        <l xml:id="3170">And if Saint George do meet me here</l>
        <l xml:id="3180">I'll try his courage without fear.</l>

      <stage type="combat recovery">The knight here rises on one knee, and endeavours to continue the fight,
      but is again struck down.</stage>

        <l xml:id="3240">Oh! pardon me, Saint George, oh! pardon me I crave,</l>
        <l xml:id="3250">Oh! pardon me this once, and I will be thy slave.</l>

        <l xml:id="3260">I'll never pardon a Turkish Knight</l>
        <l xml:id="3270">Therefore arise, and try thy might.</l>
      </sp>
      <stage type="combat">The knight gets up, and they again fight,
      till the knight receives a heavy blow,
      and then drops on the ground as dead.</stage>

        <l xml:id="670">To cure a deep and deadly wound?</l>

        <l xml:id="700">I can cure the itch, the palsy, and gout,</l>
        <l xml:id="3280">If the devil's in him, I'll pull him out.</l>

      <stage type="unknown">The Doctor here performs the cure with sundry grimaces,
      and St.George and Knight again fight,
      when the latter is knocked down, and left for dead.</stage>
      <stage type="entry">Then another performer enters, and on seeing the dead body, says,</stage>

        <l xml:id="3290">Ashes to ashes, dust to dust,</l>
        <l xml:id="3300">If uncle Tom Pearce won't have him, Aunt Molly must.</l>

      <stage type="unknown">The hobby-horse here capers in, and takes off the body.</stage>
      <stage type="entry">Enter Old Squire</stage>

        <speaker>Old Squire</speaker>
        <l xml:id="3310">Here comes I, old, old Squire,</l>
        <l xml:id="3320">As black as any friar,</l>
        <l xml:id="3330">As ragged as a colt,</l>
        <l xml:id="3340">To leave fine clothes for malt.</l>

      <stage type="entry">Enter Hub Bub</stage>

        <speaker>Hub Bub</speaker>
        <l xml:id="2460">Here comes I old Hub Bub Bub Bub,</l>
        <l xml:id="2470">Upon my sholders I carries a club,</l>
        <l xml:id="2480">And in my hand a frying pan,</l>
        <l xml:id="2490">So am not I a valiant man.</l>

      <stage type="unknown">These characters serve as a sort of burlesque on St. George and the other
      hero, and may be regarded in the light of an anti-masque.</stage>
