The Council ran a series of essay competitions in the early 1960s
in collaboration with various local publications to capture the memories
of eldery residents of Nottinghamshire villages and certain towns. All the entries
were deposited in the Nottinghamshire Archives. A couple of dozen of the
essays mention Plough Monday, folk plays and other folklore topics.
