EXTRACTS CONCERNING PLOUGH MONDAY, FROM THE ESSAY COMPETITION "MEMORIES OF A VILLAGER"
In 196O, the Nottinghamshore Local History Council ran an essay competition through its periodical Nottinghamshire Countryside Magazine, with the intention of obtaining valuable historical data fron the memories of old people.
Twentyseven of the essays received mentioned Plough Monday celebratiouns to some degree or other. The following extracts come from these essays.
A summary of the content of the essays was published by Cossen in 1962*, and the scripts themsleves are now deposited in the Nottingham Record Office, High Pavement, Nottingham, under the reference (DD 121/1.)
The Winning entries were published in the Nottinghamshire Countryside in 1960 in the Autumn and winter numbers.**
